Master Key Systems

A master key system, at it's most basic level, is where 2 or more different keys will work a single lock. Of course, having multiple keys work a single lock is not really that efficient. Consider the following diagram:

Master Key Diagram

In the diagram, there is a building with 3 doors. Now, we could do a single key to operate all doors, but what if we wanted only 1 person having access door 2, and another person access to door 3, while letting other people have access to door 1?

That's easily solved with a master key system. In this case, 3 different keys would be required. Key 1 would only open door 1, key 2 would open doors 1 and 2, and key 3 would open doors 1 and 3. You can also have a 4th key, which will open all doors.

Master key systems are basically mechanical access control systems. When designed, they let you have control over who can open what door.

When combined with a restricted key ssytem, you suddenly have complete control over who goes where in your premises.

A lot of the time, master key systems will be confused with restricted key systems. The two systems are completely seperate until deliberately combined. Master keying can be done to almost all domestic and commercial locks.

Master keying is a slighty more expensive process, because of the additional overhead in materials. But even so, we can still do it at a great price for all of our customers!
